The trigger/hammer assembly is a massive pain to remove as the hammer spring retaining pin isn't fully flush with the trigger housing - it sticks out on one side almost 1/16". This makes it bind badly on the stock. . Your 590A1 is warranted for ten years, and AFAIK, Mossberg will repair a safety assembly without charge even if the gun is out . The plastic trigger is only the housing; all other parts are steel. The A1 trigger uses a detent to hold the trigger pin instead of a flimsy leaf spring (which is usually good enuf). The A1 trigger was not beefed up; the plastic trigger was. So there may not be much difference in strength. You can get a standard 590 w/out the heavy barrel.

I could rack it when the trigger housing is in the gun as well. I didnt dissamble the trigger group. I just took the whole trigger housing unit ( pic 1 and 2) in and out of the gun. The gun worked fine before it was dissembled. Weird thing was, it was firing during the trigger pull when I initially assembled it together (without the buttstock in).Mossberg 590 A1: 18.5"/20" heavy walled barrel, clean through tube, 6/9 round capacity, metal trigger housing, metal safety. 20" model with bayonet lug. the receivers are the same, the heavy barrel and metal trigger guard are the only differences other than finishes. u can just buy a heavy parkerized barrel and the trigger guard and u will have the same gun. just stamp 590ai on the left side of the receiver.lol
