Couple things here play in. The bigger dia of the housing changes a constant in the ecu equation. The sensor monitors parts of air, then the ecu calculates that with the dia of the housing to conclude how much air went in.

i have a 99.5 audi a4 aeb 1.8tq. i need to upgrade to a larger diameter housing. i have the older style connector on my MAF with the metal retaining clip. just wondering what the year, make, engine, part numbers are for the housings that will accept this style element/connector. i've heard. If you get a MAF housing made from aluminum, have the shop / vender weld a boss to mount the MK3 IAT or a 1.8T IAT. If one decides not to modify the MAF housing or buy an aluminum version, one could use the breather heater port on the intake elbow. This assumes you are running a catch can.
