I'd be looking to butt box up against other section and cap the open ends, simple , easier to do. Just remember to do caps 1st. Before welding brace corners by tacking bit scrap .
Cuts box section like a hot knife through butter. You can improve the "out of the box" accuracy by playing around with the rear fence adjustment using an engineer's square. . My idea was to use some 1/8" steel box section, fabricate a frame and then weld on some 12 gauge (2.5mm) galvanised steel mesh to make a gate. With a few hinges welded on . I am new to MIG welding and have been making my own gym equipment using mild steel box section tubing. Most of the connections for this equipment comprise of 10mm plate .
Ultimately, when I've done some small projects for experience, I want to put together a gantry-type cnc router. Probably with 5mm thick box section tubes. I have no welder, and there seems to . Apr 5, 2018 #1 Hi I've been welding some steel box section . All they are stating there is the ID of the tube which is pretty obvious. What we need to know is what will slide inside each other, I would have thought that a 3MM clearance would be suffice, so 90,80,70,60MM box with a 3.5-3.6MM wall .

You can buy plastic caps to whack in the ends, or weld steel pieces in if strength is important as said. Kent Member. Messages 9,988 Location Hi, I am looking for a way of storing my trailer when not is use (250kg 8x4 size). I have a 2 post ramp in the garage and a 3.5m ceiling height so my thoughts are to build a frame that I could lift the trailer onto using the ramp to get it . C-section is better than box - box adds weight without adding stiffness. I would use 200mm x 50mm x 4mm C-section with cross pieces of same stuff at 600mm centres. You could possibly get away with 150x5x4 C-section + Ali checker plate then 60x60x5mm angle as Side guards (and adding to depth/stiffness) Like this: L angle

How about, getting a piece of 40 x 40 box and sliding it up, inside the 50 x50 box. That would double , up yor wall thickness. The 40 box , will be a loose fit , inside the 50 box. You can tack on, some flat bar to ,the outside of the 40 box make it a tighter fit, inside the 50 box. Would 25x25x2.5 mild steel box section slide inside 30x30x2.5? Would the seam get in the way? If so how do you grind the seam down? Or is it better to use 40x40x2.5 for the outer and pack it out with plastic spacers or something? I want the fit to be pretty close without much play. Thanks
Have got some box section 3mm thick 100x100x 5mtrs was planning on drilling it at 1ft intervals and inserting tube right through it for the handles. Got these aswell they are 3mmx48mmx1mtr long. . first idea was to butt the tube against the steel and weld it on. . 2021-mig Contact us;
the hydraulic bender has to be used with the same sort of principle as bending bar in a vice, small bends spaced out every couple of mm and keep repeating until you get the bend you need. the rollers do look to have a better finish but the hydro bender allows much more intricate bends with different radii with a lot more ease

Of course i could weld a 1mt section of box onto a suitable hold and try it but i would like to know the maths behind it. . I is the "Area moment of inertia" a property related to the shape of the steel F = 100*9.81 = 981N L = 1m E = About 2*10^11, it's just a property of steel, related to how much it stretches when a load is applied to a . If you are welding on 2.5 mm wall thickness box then I would suggest a 2.5mm 6013 on dcen at about 60 amps.I have the same unit Personally I think you will find it much easier to start on a bit of 8mm flat bar with a 3.2 rod at about 110amps, no chance of blowing through then, 2.5mm steel might be a bit tricky to get started with Essentially it will be built out of box section. It might be Aluminium or Steel not decided yet. I will need to bolt cross pieces in place with bolts going through the side of one section and then into the "end" of another section I have thought about various methods such as welding bolts onto thin section and welding it in the end. assuming the same wall thickness I'm wondering what size of alloy box section, angle etc would be needed to get the same strength you'd get in any given mild steel box section, or angle, tube, flat bar etc from what I can gather, for aluminium it seems you need almost twice the size of steel -.
Hi, does anyone know the calculation to work out how much weight a length of box section could take in the middle?. I am making a lifting beam to lift our boat up enough so the trailer can be removed. The materials I have considered are 70mm and 80mm box section, both around 5mm wall. The beam will need to be able to support 700-800kg. Then you shovel it into your base and scrape it off with a straight edge. Your box-section frame would make ideal rails for this guaranteeing you a nice flat floor. you can trowel it off to give a slightly smoother surface. Paint when fcured to seal the surface and prevent it . Used with the 60 in the vertical, it is more resistent to the bending loads from the suspension units than a square section. I just weighed my 2mtx1.2mt box trailer. Heavily over built and regularly carries 700kgs. Came out at around 220kg. Yours would be somewhat less without the box and the framing for it. I'm making a new rear access door for my garage, using 40mm square 3mm thick box section framework, with a 2mm steel sheet, rather than wood exterior face. I have a couple of 5 lever keyed alike Mortice Deadlocks to use and just wandering if there is anything special e.g. extra reinforcment, needed after piercing the box section for the lock.

You should be able to make a device to scrape the crud off the inside of a tube by getting some long high tensile steel studding , boring a machined block of mild steel ( machined to the tube ) , centrally along the axis thread it to the studding size , then case harden it all over especially in the threaded hole , then using the high tensile steel studding and any extending . Hi, Would anyone please be able to advise me on what type of portable chop/mitre saw I could use for cutting square steel box section up to 75mm square with wall thinkness up to 8mm? Box section can be rolled fairly easily to larger radi without hardly and distortion to the profile. We tend to put it through the plate rolls for speed if its not a tight radius. . tight and or the steel is heavy gauge set up the chop saw and cut through 3 sides of the box evenly spaced ,clamp the steel to the right curve and weld it up . Hi, Can someone help me out as to what amperage to use to TIG weld 10mm mild plate to 3mm box section? I've got 1.6mm electrodes and 1.6mm mild steel filler rods. Planning on using 5lpm argon.. Are there any usefull techniques? Cheers, Paul. The box section is 30x30 at the bottom, the uprights are the same. Top deck horizontal arms are 30mm angle bracket. Front and rear of the top deck has 25x25m box section and the handle is 10mm black rod. Bottom deck supports are 25x25 angle iron and there is a bit of 25x25 box that goes across between the bottom of the uprights. Here's some early attempts at using my cheap little Wolf arc welder to join pieces of steel angle iron which have walls of about 3mm thick. In places the walls seem nearer 4mm. In the first image, I joined two pieces of angle iron to make a bit of box section, to hold a .
