As a professional woodworker, I say no to Poplar for a steel guitar body. While Poplar is technically catagorized as a hardwood, I have never considered it as such. To me, it is a "soft hardwood" at best. Has anyone quantified the amount of cabinet drop for currently available guitars? I would like to see cent tuning deflection comparisons along with string guage for ten, twelve, and D10 guitars. How about if people who have recorded the deflection on their guitars post it?
