I have read two methods of insulating metal supply plenum -- inside the plenum or outside the plenum. I'd like to hear the pros and cons for the two. It appears to me that putting insulation inside could lead to mold growth and blow the insulation particles in the house. The outside insulation, if not done well could have trapped air, and may lead to sweating. Getting a new, complete system, inside and out. One company is touting externally wrapped insulation for the metal plenums as their key value proposition over internally insulated metal plenums. Two other companies both use internally insulated and claim they are the way to go. Two of the competing companies are rated second and third in a recent local area service . It's radiating 110F on my thermal camera. It's a gas unit. Even if it is insulated on the inside, the metal is exposed to the outside, and metal is great at transferring heat, so it would be more efficient to not have it directly exposed to outside. And I know the duct insulation inside sheet metal is always pretty thin.
